Sea Sunday Collection – thank you

Thank you for your kind and generous donations to this appeal last week. The parish raised £135.46.

Canonisation of Cardinal John Henry Newman

The Vatican has announced that on Sunday 13th October in Rome, John Henry Newman will be canonised a saint of the Catholic Church. Newman’s life and legacy are a phenomenon both in the Church of England and then, subsequently, as a Catholic after his conversion. He founded The Oratory in this country which is now flourishing and sent much of the latter part of his life in Birmingham. It is impossible to do justice to this outstanding modern Doctor of the church, who perhaps one day will also be declared a Doctor of the Church, such is the breadth, depth and richness of his life. He preached and lived the Christian faith and wrote extensively about it. We sing some of his hymns at Mass and his Dream of Gerontius was set to music by Elgar. When Pope Benedict came to England he wished to visit Newman’s Rooms in Birmingham. Going to Rome – It may be some Parishioners wish to go to Rome for the canonisation. One needs to be fully mobile to cope with Rome. Please speak to Fr Anthony or Deacon David.

Market Drayton Foodbank Child Holiday Meal Appeal

An appeal has been launched for food donations suitable for the child holiday lunches that will be distributed on a Tuesday from 23rd July throughout the school holidays. Children WILL go hungry in our community during the summer holidays as some families do not have the additional money to provide lunches, they would otherwise receive free at school. All help will be much appreciated whether you would like to help as a volunteer during a Tuesday session or donate food/money. If you wish to donate food items or money specifically for us to buy items of food on your behalf, please drop off donations at the Foodbank during one of the sessions or to Gail Ackerley (Foodbank Treasurer) identified as a donation for Child Holiday Meals. The items we require for our lunches are as follows: Soup, Tins of ravioli, spaghetti, meatballs, minced beef and chilli con carne, Hot dogs, Tuna, Tinned vegetables, Packets of mashed potato, Packets of rice, pasta and noodles, Baked beans, Tins of fruit, Tins of chopped tomatoes, Biscuits and Rice pudding

Any amount of help will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
