CAFOD Fast Day 2019
This year’s Harvest Fast Day takes place this Friday 4th October. This Harvest we hear from 14-year-old Fabiano about the danger he faced on the long walk to collect water in the dark. Now that a solar powered pump has been installed in his village, Fabiano can get water safely, easily and have time and energy for school. Read more on Fabiano’s story online at cafod.org.uk/harvest.
There are many more children who still need our help and who are risking their safety and missing school to get water. Help to reach more children and communities this Harvest by donating using one of the envelopes provided.
Our Lady of the Rosary
This feast was instituted by Pope Saint Pius V on the anniversary of the naval battle at Lepanto (1571). It was said that the Christians were victorious because of the help of the holy Mother of God, invoked by the saying of the Rosary. This celebration on 7th October urges all to meditate on the mysteries of Christ, following the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary who was in a special manner associated with the incarnation, passion and glorious resurrection of the Son of God. Our Parish prays the Rosary every Friday evening at 7pm in Church, why not come and join us, you’ll be most welcome.
Volunteers needed for Foodbank Supermarket Collections
The Foodbank has managed to secure two Supermarket Collection events and requires volunteers to help both at Morrisons Supermarket and at the Foodbank on the following dates:
Saturday 16th November from 08.30-17.00
Friday 13th December 08.30-1700 and Saturday 14th December 08.30-15.00.
Roles include giving out shopping lists and collecting food at Morrisons and helping to sort, dot and weigh food at the Foodbank (Parish Rooms, Church Street). If you feel you can help on any of the dates, please contact Helen McSherry at firstname.lastname@example.org or 01630 654007. A substantial amount of help is needed so please consider volunteering. The events will help to increase stock levels especially during the run up to Christmas. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
